Pharyngometer and Rhinometer

The Eccovision Pharyngometer and Rhinometer use acoustic technology, very similar to the way a bat does, to evaluate the open area of the pharynx, or throat, and nasal passages.

The Pharyngometer enables Dr. Wiggins to evaluate the potential collapsibility of the pharynx, or throat, area during sleep.  At this time there is no way to accurately duplicate the collapse that happens during sleep.  The pharyngometer aids in evaluating the probability of success when repositioning the mandible. This potentially decreases the number of titrating appointments necessary to achieve the desired results when treating obstructive sleep apnea with oral appliances.  These readings are compared to the radiographic evaluation for a more comprehensive diagnostic process.

The Rhinometer helps to evaluate the potential complication of a blocked nasal passage in the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea, and enables a more comprehensive evaluation when needed by co-diagnosis with an ENT or otolaryngologist.
